Dental appliances can be made to help keep the airways open when you sleep. Such devices must be custom-designed by a specialist so that the device is comfortable and does not damage the dentition of the patient. These devices are effective for treating snoring, mild apnea and moderate apnea. It can sometimes be used for severe apnea treatment when CPAP therapy has proven unsuccessful.

A widespread treatment is the mandibular advancement orthosis (OAC) which is a mechanical alternative with a double dental gutter allowing advanced positioning of the lower jaw during sleep. The airways are clear and the sleeper breathing normalized. Before use, it is necessary to consult a specialist who will evaluate if the device will have a good chance of success and if your teeth will be able to support it. It must be custom-made by specialists and represents an effective alternative to better address chronic snoring problems.

The device is now supported by mutuals under certain conditions, since the state and health professionals consider snoring and especially apnea as a major public health problem.
